Description

Scarce map extendingfrom Austin and Bastrop, Texas to Yuma Arizona. Wheat spends nearly a full page describing the map. Beginning at Austin, Texas on the Colorado River, the map shows a route via Fredericksburg, Fort Mason, Fort Concho, the Horsehead Crossing of the Pecos, Fort Stockton, Fort Davis and Fort Quitman, then up to Fort Seldoen in New Mexico and west via Fort Cummings, Camp Mimbres, Fort Bowie, Tucson, Sacaton, the Marcopa Valley and Wells, and Rinyon Station, to Yuma. In New Mexico, the map extends as far nort as Forts Stanton and Conrad, in Arizona it reaches beyond Fort McDowell. It references maps of Texas published by Pressler and Gillespie and Gildart's Journal of the Route from Ft.Conchas to Fort Yuma. A marvelous and highly detailed map, noting water holes, grazing areas, missions, camps, Indian villages, and mines. Wheat 1216. A few minor tears, but overall a nice example.
