In this mirror-image photograph, AS14-67-9367, taken on February 5, 1971, the Apollo 14 Lunar Module (LM) is captured against a dazzling sun glare during the first extravehicular activity (EVA) by the mission's moon-exploring astronauts. A bright trail left by the two-wheeled modularized equipment transporter (MET) can be seen leading from the LM, etched into the lunar soil. While astronauts Alan B. Shepard Jr., commander, and Edgar D. Mitchell, lunar module pilot, were actively exploring the lunar surface, astronaut Stuart A. Roosa, command module pilot, skillfully maneuvered the Command and Service Modules (CSM) in lunar orbit. This historic photograph, AS12-46-6728, taken on November 19, 1969, captures the moment astronaut Alan L. Bean, lunar module pilot for the Apollo 12 mission, is about to step off the ladder of the Lunar Module, joining astronaut Charles Conrad Jr., the mission commander, for extravehicular activity (EVA) on the moon's surface. While Conrad and Bean embarked on this lunar exploration, astronaut Richard F. Gordon Jr., the command module pilot, remained in lunar orbit with the Command and Service Modules. This compelling photograph captures the deployed Apollo Lunar Surface Experiment Package (ALSEP) during the Apollo 12 mission on November 19, 1969. In this northwest-looking view, the lunar surface magnetometer experiment takes the foreground, while other objects on the lunar surface are visible from right to left: a discarded subpallet and cover; the solar-wind spectrometer experiment; the suprathermal ion detector experiment, with the darker radioisotope thermoelectric generator behind it; the ALSEP central station, where Astronaut Charles Conrad Jr., the mission commander, is adjusting the antenna; the passive seismic experiment (PSE); and the discarded PSE girdle. The boot prints of Astronaut Alan L. Bean, the lunar module pilot, can be seen as he traversed the crater. The photograph was taken during the first extravehicular activity (EVA-1) using an HCEX (SO-168 - Ektachrome EF, high-speed color reversal, ASA 160) film with a 60mm lens. The sun angle was low, and the camera tilt was a medium oblique with a westward direction.
