Description

This bird's-eye map of Los Angeles, published in 1932 by Metropolitan Surveys and designed by K.M. Leuschner, provides a detailed view of the city during that time.

It is likely that the map was prepared for the 1932 Summer Olympics, as it features Olympic Village (Inglewood), Olympic Stadium (near USC), Olympic Auditorium, and the Olympic Rowing Course.

The map also displays several of Los Angeles's famous landmarks, such as Santa Monica Pier, Ocean Park Amusement Pier, Venice Pier, Sunset Pier, UCLA, Fox Studios at Westwood Hills, the Hollywood Bowl, Brown Derby Cafe, Beaux Arts Building, Long Beach Breakers Hotel, USC, Belmont Shores, and the Rose Bowl. Additionally, the homes of 17 early movie stars are marked on the map.

An interesting aspect of the map is the representation of the numerous oil fields around Los Angeles, along with manufacturing plants like Goodyear Rubber, Firestone Rubber, Willys Overland, US Rubber, and the Chrysler plant. Near Long Beach and Wilmington, the Ford Factory and Union Oil Refining are depicted, while Standard Oil occupies the area between Manchester and Redondo Blvd and Mine's Field (now LAX) to the east.

This map stands out as one of the most informative and well-designed pictorial maps of Los Angeles from that era.
