Serengeti National Park is one of the most iconic and renowned wildlife reserves in the world, located in the northern region of Tanzania. This vast protected area covers an area is home to an incredible array of wildlife, including lions, elephants, giraffes, cheetahs, zebras, and wildebeests, among others.
The map of Serengeti National Park published by the Tanzania National Park authority in August 1968 provides a detailed and accurate representation of the park's topography and geography, and wildlife. It covers the entire extent of the park, from the Mara River in the north to Lake Victoria in the west, and from the Simiyu River in the east to the Maswa Game Reserve in the south.
The map shows main roads, park tracks and dry season tracks for 4-wheel drive vehicles. It also identifies numerous guard posts and other points of interest. One of the key features of the map is its depiction of the park's drainage system. The map shows the Mara River, which flows through the park's northern region, and the Grumeti and Mbalageti Rivers, which flow through the park's western region.

The first steps towards establishing the Serengeti National Park were taken in 1921 when the British colonial authorities declared the area as a game reserve. This was done to protect the area's wildlife from hunting and poaching, which had led to a decline in the populations of many species. Over the following years, efforts were made to establish the area as a national park, and in 1951, the Serengeti National Park was officially established.
