Elaborate West Texas Oil Promotional

Big Spring, Texas Celebration of "Monster" New Oil Field

"It's Going to be the Biggest Oil Field on Earth"

This fabulous Texas oil promotional commemorates General Oil Company's elaborate celebration held at Big Spring in 1920 to dedicate its "Monster New Oil Field." The General Oil Company, which began operations in May 1919, was based in Houston, with branch offices in Big Spring, Wichita Falls, and West Columbia. The company's initial properties were in West Columbia and Burkburnett. In November 1919 the company brought in Sparks No. 1 gusher, with estimated 10,000 barrels, followed by numerous additional gushers. Full of lively scenes from the celebration at Big Spring, including many photographic views of the executives, their wives, drilling crews, investors and stockholders, and the like.

With humorous cartoon illustrations by Bert Blessington (1877-1939), a noted Houston-based newspaper cartoonist.
