Description

Drawn By The Artist Who Won The National Duck Stamp Competition in 1936

Fine and beautiful map of the ducks of North America showing twenty-one different types of birds and the regions they inhabit.

The image centers on a large, general map of North America, showing preferred breeding areas and the limits of their winter territories. Around the edges of this map are depicted the native types of geese in the region and small inset maps of their preferred regions. Populations that have seen a large decrease in number are denoted with a red cross.

This edition of the map (the only edition we are aware of) was limited to 1000 copies. This example is unnumbered, like the example in the Rumsey collection.

Richard E. Bishop was an American illustrator and visual artist focusing on depictions of ducks and geese. He won the national duck stamp competition in 1936, the third year of the competition and one year before this map was produced. He also did a map of North American Surface Feeding Ducks, Swans and Geese in 1834.
