Rare map of Southern California, focusing on the names and locations of Southern California Native American groups, published for the Bureau of American Ethnology.

The map illustrates the location of the major Indian groups and then gives the specific location of different bands.  Larger groups include:

  • Fernandeño
  • Serrano
  • Gabrielino
  • Juaneño
  • Luiseño
  • Cahuila
  • Cupeño
  • Diegueño

Nearly 100 smaller names given.

This is the first map of the region we have seen dedicated to locating Native Americans in Southern California.
