Interesting map of the United States, from a rare Brussels edition of Malte-Brun's Atlas Complet.

The map includes a 54-40 or fight Oregon Territorial border with British America.  Texas is identified, but shown as part of Mexico. Three mythical rivers extend from San Francisco to the twin Salt Lakes. Mt. St. Joseph is named, an early tribute to Jedidiah Smith. Many Indian Tribes located. The river systerm in the Plains and Rocky Mountain regions are very detaile.

Malte-Brun's maps are well regarded for being thoroughly researched and cartographically accurate. This map reflects contemporary Western Cartography immediate before Fremont, Josiah Gregg and other important maps introduced in the 1840s.
