Description

With Three Early Images of Chinatown.

Fine set of San Francisco photogravures from the earliest part of the 20th century, showing the city and its monuments from many angles.

The book, published by the Denison News Company in San Francisco and printed by the Albertype Company in New York, is a nice representation of turn-of-the-century San Francisco. It shows the mix between the old-style Victorian houses and the new, tall buildings that defined the city during this period. Three photogravures are dedicated to life in Chinatown, showing a fortune teller, a grocery store, and local buildings.

The book includes images of the Battle of Manila Monument (completed 1903) and the McKinley Monument (dedicated 1904), providing an approximate date for the book.
