18th Century Dutch Pocket Atlas of the World

Nice example of the 1778 edition of De Leth's pocket atlas, which was first published in 1749.  The atlas was published by S.J. Baalde, who became the publisher in 1770.

The atlas includes 38 hand-colored maps, including a world map, map of the continents and map of North America, showing California as an island.

Condition Description
Quarto. Half calf with marbled boards. Spine raised in six compartments, with leather pastedown in second compartment from the top. 4 celestial maps and models, 34 double-page maps in original outline color, two charts of distances in original color, and 1 plate of signal flags. (Joints cracked, covers lightly worn).
