Don Bloodgood's "Pic-Tour" Map of Colorado -- Summer Playground and Winter Wonderlands

Fine pictorial map of Colorado, by the well-regarding pictorial map artist Don Bloodgood.

The map captures Bloodgood's unmistakable style of bringing to life a caricature of local life, cultural and historical icons and important tourist information, all wrapped up into a stylistically fun and easy to use "pic-tour" format.

The map provides an interesting whimsical image of Colorado, illustrating many mountains, lakes, rivers,  tourist attractions, recreational facilities, mountains lakes and ski resorts, along with summer recreation.  Dinosaurs are shown north of the Yampa, and small mining towns, such as Telluride and Steamboat Springs are shown, years before they became tourist boom towns.

Don Bloodgood's work spanned a number of regions, including California, Hawaii, Texas, Minnesota, Vancouver, Havana, Washington, D.C. Glacier National Park, San Francisco, New Mexico, Colorado and Arizona, with most maps relating to tourism.  His career spanned from the 1930s to the early 1960s.

As with so many of Bloodgood's pictorial maps, they weren't just decorative maps, but his maps tap into the culture and life of the region, and reveal how the area would have been experienced at the time.

Rarity

Given Bloodgood's success as a pictorial artist, some of his maps are surprisingly scarce on the market.

This is the first time we have offered the Colorado map.
