Description

Scarce Russian-language map of the world, with dramatic illustrations of animals and peoples of the world.

The map was seemingly extracted from the 1890s Russian-language edition of F.A. Brockhaus's famous encyclopedia, printed at Leipzig for the export market.

It is evident that the makers of this map were either did not understand Russian or did not understand plants and animals; the image in the upper left (clearly of European animals) is labeled "African Plans and Animals", the upper right corner (clearly African) is labeled "Australian", and the lower right corner (clearly Australian) is labeled "European".

Condition Description
Wear at the edges. Faint dampstain. Paper somewhat soft. Some small holes in the image.
