Description

Scarce Russian-language map of North America, with dramatic illustrations of animals and peoples of the continent.

The map was seemingly extracted from the 1890s Russian-language edition of F.A. Brockhaus's famous encyclopedia, printed at Leipzig for the export market.

The green shading on the map seems to represent low-lying topography, but if that is the case, it is very inaccurate.

It is evident that the makers of this map were either did not understand Russian or did not understand plants and animals; the image in the upper left (clearly of European animals) is labeled "African Plans and Animals", the upper right corner (clearly African) is labeled "Australian", and the lower right corner (clearly Australian) is labeled "European".
