Description

The Finest 18th-Century Plan of Rome.

A handsome example of Giovanni Battista Nolli's 12-sheet plan of Rome, with the often-missing 4-sheet key.

This wonderful Baroque plan of the Eternal City has often been compared with the Turgot map-view of Paris and Rocque's plan of London in terms of its large format, decorative impact, and importance for urban planning. It features a sprawling decorative cartouche across the entire base of the map.

The plan of the city renders some of the more important public buildings in floorplan-level detail. The gardens and country surrounding Rome are rendered pictorially.
