Description

Decorative view of the Swiss Alps, loooking south from the area near Interlaken and Lake Thun.

The panorma looks up towards the Wetterhorn, Eiger, Jungfrau, Finsteraarhorn, Silberhorn, Breighorn and other famed peaks of the Swiss Alps.

The map promotes the famed Wengernalp Railway, a 12 mile long rail line from Lauterbrunnen to Grindelwald via Wengen and Kleine Scheidegg, which is the world's longest continuous rack and pinion railway.

First planed in 1875, it was not until 1890, that the Wengernalpbahn was finally established, with construction starting in 1891.  In 1892, the first steam powered train reached Wengen on April 18 and Kleine Scheidegg on August 10, 1873. The line from Lauterbrunnen to Grindelwald was finally opened on June 20, 1893. Several decades later, the line was entirely electrified.

Anton Reckzeigel was a well regarded Austrian Artist who is well known for his travel poster and similar art primarily focused on scenes in the Alps.
