Description

Fantastic anti-war Cuban poster showing the carpet-bombing of Vietnam by US planes, one of which is being ridden by an overly enthusiastic Nixon waving a swastika.

Produced during the last phases of American involvement in the war, when it stepped up its bombing raids to neighboring Cambodia and Laos, the map shows the locations most heavily targeted by the Americans. The border, which is faintly demarcated (and, for some reason, stretches into Laos), is the site of the densest bombing and where the Americans were trying to eradicate the elusive Ho Chi Minh trail. Roads, railways, and cities are marked.

The title ostensibly refers to the Paris Peace Accords of 1972, in which Nixon agreed to a full withdrawal of American troops. However, during the negotiations, Americans continued combat operations, including a massive bombing of North Vietnam during Operation Linebacker.

This poster was designed by "Lazaro" and published by OSPAAAL, the Organization of Solidarity with the People of Asia, Africa and Latin America., a Marxist anti-colonial outfit headquartered in Cuba. OSPAAAL produced posters to be distributed internationally between the organization's founding and the 1980s, when ink shortages became severe in Cuba.
