Description

Fascinating plan of ancient Rome as it appeared between about 578 BC and 387 BC.

During the regin of Servius Tullius, sixth king of Rome, Rome grew significantly.  The Servian reforms increased the number of tribes.  Rome was exanded, with the addition of a new rampart, moat and wall. The enclosed area was divided into four administrative regiones (regions, or quarters); the Suburana, Esquilana, Collina and Palatina.

The map was published for Nathaniel Hook's The Roman History, From the Building of Rome to the Ruin of the Commonwealth (1766 – 1771).
