Description

Highly detailed and attractive view of the Arch of Septimius Severus, in Rome, published by Francois Halma in Amsterdam in 1704. The title of the engraving is "Arcus Lucii Septimii Severi Augusti, e Regione Romani Fori," which translates to "The Arch of Lucius Septimius Severus Augustus, from the Roman Forum Region."

The arch is shown in perspective with large columns at the front and an elaborate bas-relief on its face. Large statues of Roman soldiers, including two on horseback and two in a chariot, can be seen on top of the arch. People can be seen conducting trade, farming, and pursuing other activities around the structure.
