Fine example of Francois Halma's beautiful rendition of the streets of ancient Rome, published during a time of increased appreciation of classical civilization.
The map shows fine, wide streets lined with statues and beautiful, tall buildings. Mosaics and palaces abound. Temples are placed at regular intervals.
This view was published in Amsterdam near the end of the 17th century.
This map was republished by Pieter van der Aa in his Galerie Agreeable du Monde. This later state can be identified by the addition of the pagination just inside of the lower right platemark.
Crisp, dark impression.
