Description

Finely executed birdseye of Jerusalem, engraved for Isaak Tirion in Amsterdam.

The image provides an attractive depiction of the city, showing its various landmarks and features, as it appeared in the middle of the 18th Century.  The view shows the city from an elevated perspective, giving a bird's eye view of the layout of the streets and buildings. The city's ancient walls are visible, as are the many towers and domes of the city's many churches and temples, set against a backdrop of hilly topography.

The city's major landmarks, such as the Dome of the Rock and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre are visible.  Jerusalem was then under the control of the Ottoman Empire, with a number of mosques and minarets visible.
