Description

Impressive folding bird's-eye view of the Whanganui River on the North Island of New Zealand, published in Auckland around 1917 by the Brett Printing & Publishing Co. Ltd.

The view shows a pictorial rendering of the course of the river between the town of Taumarunui and the town of Wanganui at the ocean. Over a dozen photographs form a border around the image of the river.

The map was issued as a promotional piece for a steamer service on the river.

The Wanganui River was the subject of a now-lost documentary film by the French filmmaker Gaston Melies, which was filmed on a trip in 1912-13.

Estimated date based on the cataloging of the National Library of Australia, Ferguson Collection, Map 299.
