Description

Thematic Mapping of America's Forests.

Fine original antique map showing the density of the nation's forests as they stood in 1883.

The map categorizes nine levels of density based on the amounts of cords of wood per acre, ranging from 1 cord to over 200. The highest densities are in the east, northern parts of Minnesota and Wisconsin, and in the temperate rainforests of the Pacific Northwest.

The map was draughted by Harry King and compiled under Henry Gannett. It was color-lithographed by Julius Bien & Co.
