Description

An interesting pamphlet advertising the California connections of the Southern Pacific Railway.

The lengthy pamphlet contains numerous photos of the important sites throughout California, including Yosemite, the Bay Area, the Mojave, and the Coast Ranges near San Diego and Los Angeles. At the center of the book is a nice pictorial map of the state, designed during the height of the golden age of American pictorial mapmaking. Lengthy descriptions of the railroad lines in California are provided.

The map was designed by Lewis Rothe, an American artist originally from Massachusetts. He later moved to California, living in San Francisco, San Diego, and Oakland. This is a reduction of a larger map by Rothe..

The pamphlet is copyrighted by the Southern Pacific Lines in 1928.
