Description

Fantastic color-lithographed bird's-eye view map of the Columbia River, covering the entrance to the Pacific Ocean (and Astoria), Portland, Vancouver, the Dalles, and culminating at Arlington.

The map renders the region in fantastic detail, with topography and many other features shown pictorially. Mount Adams, Mount Hood, and Mount St. Helens are shown in the image. Insets depict the profiles of the Eliot Glacier on Mount Hood, and the Cloud Cap Inn on Mount Hood.

The route of the Oregon Railway & Navigation Company is shown in red. They were the publishers of the map and used it to promote their services during the Lewis & Clark Centennial Exposition in 1905.

The view is strongly reminiscent of Oregon's best local mapmaker, Fred Routledge. Though we have not found his name on the map, his involvement in likely.
