Description

Original US Government signed copy of the rare and imporant treaty map, which accompanied the Protocol of Agreement between Her Majesty and the United States of America, defining the Boundary Line through the Canal de Haro, in accordance with the Award of the Emperor of Germany, of October 21, 1872, which was signed in Washington on March 10, 1873. The boundary dispute between Britain and the US regarding the Srait of Juan De Fuca, through to Roberts Point was resolved by submission of the matter to the Emperor of Germany. The Protocol and this accompanying map reflect the results of his decision and includes a blue and red line showing the final boundary decision. The map is signed by Edward Thornton, Hamilton Fish and James Prevost. This example of the map indicates that it was Republished October 1873, byt the U.S. Hydrographic Office, and copied from a British Admiralty Chart prepared by the Admiralty in November 1872, under the direction of Rear Adm. G.H. Richards, who also conducted the surveys from 1858-1862 upon which the map is based. This example bears the notation that it is the--Chart referred to in the protocol of the undersigned of this date--and bears the written facsimile signatures of the 3 signers and is dated Washington, March 10, 1873. An extraodinary rarity.
