Description

Fascinating World War II era navigational chart of the South Atlantic, focusing on the eastern coastline of Brazil and extending Eastward to Ascension Island. US airmen used charts like these to navigate during the war, and the map is classified at a Restricted level.

The map shows the areas around Recife and Natal in easternmost Brazil. The map extends southwards into Espirito Santo and Northwards into Ceara. Fortaleza and Salvador are also shown. Curiously, this very closely compares with the extent shown on one of the most important maps of Brazil ever published, the Marcgraf map.

The verso shows a very detailed look at the islands of Ascension, Fernando Noronha, and Rocas in the south Atlantic.
