Description

Fine large format WWII "Newsmap", providing up-to-date coverage of World War II to the American soldiers. This is one of the earliest issues we have seen, being Volume I, Number 7 of the several hundred total issues. This issue was published in June of 1942.

The base map is surrounded by news-style articles, images, photographs, and other information regarding the progress of the war, including other smaller theater maps. Perhaps the most interesting feature on the map is the identification of the death of Heydrich, one of the most high-ranking Nazi officers and de facto dictator of the Czech Republic who was assassinated by Czech Partisans. The tenor of the information and news set forth on the map is decidedly pro-Allies and anti-Axis, with the map championing the Allied successes while minimizing the Axis gains.

The verso of the map shows the vulnerability of Axis tanks and the most effective ways for Allied troops to combat them.
