Decorative map of North America, in the style of John Tallis, but with a completely different border and vignettes. Virtue's map is every bit as decorative as Tallis' map, but significantly scarcer. Vignettes include Columbus' 1st Landing, a Whale Fishery, Geyers in Iceland, Capt. Parry wintering in the Arctic, Hunting the Buffalo, and Indian Chief, Niagara Falls and the remains of an Ancient Mexican Temple. Massive Upper California, Oregon Territory, Michigan Territory and Texas in the West, possibly pre-dating the Gold Rush. The map has been trimmed into the decorative border, with loss on two sides, plus a bit of loss in the upper right corner. Still, a very decorative item. Normally, a $400.00 map.
