Description

Very rare Currier & Ives railroad image.

The image shows a lively train junction, with two trains pulled by large black locomotives in front of a station, with tracks appearing to converge. In the foreground, a signalman stands holding a white flag.  At the far left, there is a large railroad station building filled with passengers and onlookers. At the right, a conductor stands at the back of a caboose of a third train. Further to the right, a brake man stands beside the tracks holding a signal pole, while another figure works on a pile of railroad ties.

The train at the right promotes "The Great Through Route." Toward the top, box cars show the words "From Ocean to Ocean Through To The Pacific Fast Freight Line."  At the fair right, the train is marked "Pullman Palace Drawing Room and Sleeping Car."

The map is listed in the "Best 50 " Large Folio Currier & Ives prints in  Frederick Conningham’s Currier & Ives Prints. An Illustrated Check List.
