Rare Swiss News Map Published During The Battle of Sinagpore and Battle of Bataan

Rare Zurich published news map, illustrating 5 regions in Southeast Asia and the Pacific during World War II.

Dated February 13, 1942, the map was issued in the midst of the Battle of Singapore, February 8-15, 1942, which resulted in the Japanese capture of Singapore. Singapore was the foremost British military base and economic port in South–East Asia and had been of great importance to British interwar defence strategy. The capture of Singapore resulted in the largest British surrender in its history.

Also during this period, the American forces in the Philippines were at the tail end of the Battle of Bataan, having begun their withdrawal.

The Battle of Java would begin on February 28, 1942.
