Nice, scarce, 1950s pictorial map of Long Beach, California, executed in the classic post-war style. Published in 1957 in Long Beach by the local chamber of commerce, this map shows Long Beach as Sunny and the rest of California as wasteland.
Everything within Long Beach is described with the utmost of superlatives - "World's Largest Harbor," "World's Largest Grape Vineyards" and the "Most Beautiful Girls in the World." Alongside these are the slightly more bizarre - "Warm Snow," "Long Beach's Own Private Sun" (sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce) and simply "everything." Further afield, outside the city, there are "Knobby Hills," "Big Winds from North Pole," and various colors of smog.
This particularly well-designed map, reminiscent of Oren Arnold's slightly earlier Map of the United States as Californians See It, was copyrighted by Sarver-Wtizerman.
