Description

Scarce map depicting the Earth's oceanic and atmospheric currents, detailing the seasons of the prevailing winds and showing the Sargasso Sea. An inset meteorological map shows dry and rainy regions and seasons.  In the bottom legend, Garnier credits Lieutenant Matthew Fontaine Maury with the theory of oceanic circulation.

Garnier's maps are prized for their striking and unique appearances and elegant wash colors.

Printed color with some subsequent hand-annotations. "Republica Argentina", "Falkland" written in pencil. Pencil mark following the Arkansas River in the United States.
