Description

Large finely executed school girl map, drawn by Lucy Hosford of Ely, Vermont.

We date the map based upon its showing the State of Missouri, which was created in 1821.  However, the absence of Alabama Territory (created in 1817), and Illinois Territory (created 1818), complicates the calculation.

Arkansas Territory is shown (created in 1819).

An unusually large example of the school girl map art genre.

 

Condition Description
Backed with newspaper. Crude stitched repair at the right side of the map. Damptaining at the left edge and an old repaired tear.
