The map has an interesting treatment of the area on either side of the Gila River. The region acquired from Mexico by the Gadsden Purchase (1854) is called Pimeria Alta, with a number of Indian Tribes, Mountains and Ruins located, and the prior Guadalupe-Hidalgo Treaty line (1848) also shown.
Garnier's maps are prized for their fine colors and precise details.
