Fine early view of Cairo from a neighboring hill, from Baron Denon's 

The image appeared in Baron Dominique Vivant Denon's Voyage dans la Basse et la Haute Égypte, pendant les campagnes du général Bonaparte, first published in French in 1802.

  Denon was part of the Napoleon Bonaparte's scholarly and artistic contingent during his expedition to Egypt.  Denon's great work on the Egyptian expedition, Voyage de la Haute et Basse Egypte, includes numerous fine drawings. Napoleon made Denon Director-General of the Museums. After Egypt, Denon returned to France with some of the first important drawings of views and monuments along the Nile.
