Description

Original antique etching of the palace of Knole, near Sevenoaks in Kent. This view was drawn and etched by Richard Bernard Geoffrey.

The palace used to be occupied by the Archbishop of Canterbury, the highest-ranking member of the Church of England. The palace shown is impressive, sprawling over a large park and with trees on either side.

This view was published in volume 1 of Edward Hasted's The History and Topographical Survey of the County of Kent, a fascinating work dedicated to the southeasternmost county in England.
