Louisiana Purchase Edition!
Rare 1805 edition of Gussefeld's map of the 20 United States, published shortly after the Louisiana Purchase.
In addition to the original colonies, Maine, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Florida, Vermont and Ohio are now states, along with a massive Indiana Territory (created 1800).
The massive Indiana Territory comes just months before the creation of Michigan Territory on June 30, 1805.
Perhaps most unusual is the includes of three districts (?) named Louisiana, Missisippi and Orleans, all west of Mississippi River. Likely holdover names from the Spanish period, this is the only map we recall seeing with these districts west of the Mississippi River.
Rarity
While the XIII and XV United States maps by Gussefeld appear on the market occasionally, this is only the second time we have offered this XX states edition of the map.
