Rare separately published map of the Duchy of Brabant, published in Amsterdam.

First issued in 1622, this striking map of Brabant is among the most decorative single sheet maps of the region published 17th Century.  Engraved by Claes Janszoon Visscher the map provides a fine detailed look at the prosperous region centered on the Demer River, as it flows toward the Scheldt and finally to Antwerp.

The map includes image of the 10 major cities in the region top and bottom, along with three coats of arms, along with images of typical costumes of Nobels, Merchants, Pesants and the people of Mechelen.

At the top corners are portraits of Albert VII (1559 – 1621), the Archduke of Austria for a few months in 1619 and his wife, Isabella Clara Eugenia, sovereign of the Habsburg Netherlands between 1598 and 1621.

This is the tenth state of the map, published in 1657.
