Nice example of this important regional map of Northern California covering the recently discovered Gold Regions of California, from Philip Thomas Tyson's Geology and Topography of California.
Tyson visited the Gold regions in the summer and fall of 1849. Carl Wheat notes that Tyson's work was "probably the earliest work of a true scientific research to emerge from the Gold Rush. Its author was a gifted scientist whose pioneering effort was of considerable value."
