Description

Logging Map of the Nelson National Forest

Rare separately published map of the Nelson Forest District of British Columbia.

The map is remarkably detailed in its treatment of the logging roads, rivers, towns, creeks, lakes and other features.  Given the boom in logging activities in the region in the 1920s and 1930s, we surmise that the map was likely produced prior to World War II.

The map highlights the location of Kootenay National Park (established in 1920) and Kokanee Glacier Park (established in 1922).

The map key identifies:

  • Main Roads
  • Secondary and Logging Roads
  • Good Trails
  • Poor Trails
  • Project Numbers (logging?)
  • Lookout Stations
  • Cabins
  • Boat Anchorages

Rarity

The map would appear to be quite rare.  We were not able to locate any other maps focusing on the region.
