Description

Uncommon Nazi-era map of Neuss, near Dusseldorf, in Germany. This folding map was printed in 1937 by the Pharus publishing house of Berlin.

The map shows an attractive level of detail throughout, extending from the Rhine in the north. In Neuss, streets, monuments, gardens, and train stations are all named. The various canals that offshoot the "Ober-Est," are shown, although development is much more limited on them than today. Much of the surrounding area that is today developed is left as fields.

Neuss is famously known as "Germany's oldest city," a title it shares with Trier, having been founded in 16 BC. An important northern German industrial city today, the city was heavily damaged in World War II but rebuilt quickly.
