Early American Sea Chart of the Gulf Coast
Highly detailed sea chart of the Gulf Coast, extending from New Orleans to Apalachee Bay, published in New York by E. & G.W. Blunt.
Published at a time when there was still considerable intrigue over the control of Texas and Spain's former colonies in Central America, Blunt's sea chart was the best map of the Gulf Coast available to mariners during the Civil War years.
The chart includes a large inset map of the area around Mobile Bay.
States of the Chart and Rarity
This is apparently the first state of Blunt's chart. We were not able to locate an earlier edition, which was issued until after the Civil War, with updates.
We have not located another pre 1850 example of this chart on the market in the past 20 years.
