Illustrating The Growth of Denver Between 1859 and 1892
Unusual pair of maps of the City of Denver, Colorado, published by J.B. Hunter, Denver City Engineer and lithographed by the Denver Litho Co.
Interesting pair of maps of Denver, showing the historical growth of the City during its first 5 decades.
The map on the right overlays existing 1892 boundary of Denver on top of the original 3 communities, Auraria (established November 1858), Denver (November 1858) and Highland (1859).
The map at the left shows a number of different boundaries, including:
- First Corporate Limits of Denver (November 7, 1861)
- Corporate Limits per Congressional Grant (Acts of March 1, 1864, and February 9, 1866)
- First Extension Act of January 9, 1868, February 13, 1874, and April 6, 1877
- Second Extension Act of February 13, 1883, and March 16, 1885
- Third Extension Act of March 11, 1889
Rarity
The map is very rare on the market.
While the map was listed as being prepared to accompany a report by Hunter, the only examples we have located are separately published.
