Description

Rare Wenceslaus Hollar map of the Holy Land published in 1657.

The map includes four images all relating to the travels of the Israelites out of Egypt and into the Holy Land. The constituent maps are titled: Syriae Veteris Descriptio; Castra Israelitarum in Deserto.; Peregrinatio Israelitarum in Deserto; and Chorographica Terrae Sanctae Descriptio.

The map appeared in two English bibles in the 17th century; Brian Walton's Biblia sacra polyglotta of 1657, and the Bible printed by R. Field at Cambridge in 1660.

Rarity

The map is reasonably rare and we note only two examples having traded in the last decade or so.
