Description

Striking large format landscape view of Florence, showing the Arno River in the foreground, with the Tuscan hills in the background.

Many of the most famous landmarks of Florence are rendered in detail, such as the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore and the Ponte Vecchio. These places are noted in the key below the image, which locates a total of 63 place names.

The credit in the lower right corner has been revised from an earlier edition to acknowledge its publication by the heirs of Jeremias Wolff. The view would go on to be published by a Johan Balthasar Probst, who married Wolff's sole daughter. Initially, Probst published as "Heirs of Jeremias Wolff' before eventually using his own name.

The credit indicates that the view was newly engraved by F.B. Werner.

Please note that there are many later reproductions of the Wolff/Probst views on the market, but this is a genuine 18th-century engraging.
