Description

HMS Victory - But Not Nelson's.

Intricately engraved portrait of His Majesty's Ship Royal George, a Royal Navy 100-gun ship of the line launched in 1675, which was originally called Royal James.

Following the Glorious Revolution, the ship was renamed Victory, then Royal George in 1714, at the time of King George's accession to the thrown but changed back to Victory the following year.

The vessel burned to the waterline in 1721, with the name Victory eventually passing to Nelson's flagship at Trafalgar, which is still in the Royal Navy to this day.
