Description

Rare wall map of Lancaster County, lithographed in Philadelphia by P.S. Duval.

The map is colored by county and includes excellent detail, including the names of towns and many landowners, along with roads, rivers, schools and some topographical features.

Includes vignette views of the Lancaster County Prison and Conestoga Steam Mills, as well as a table of statistics of Lancaster County, 1850, and a list of Post Offices.

There is no place of publication, but the Library of Congress notes it as "[Lancaster? : s.n.], 1851"

Rarity

The map is apparently quite rare. We note only a single example offered at auction on RBH (2014) and no dealer catalog records going back 40 years.

OCLC locates 2 copies (Family History Library Salt Lake City and Library of Congress).  The Lancaster Historical Society is also listed with a digital image.
