Description

Valk and Schenk's map of Yorkshire's West Riding, showing the massive inland county bounded by Nottinghamshire, Darbyshire, Lancashire, and the other ridings of Yorkshire. This fine map was published by Valk and Schenk in the late 17th century, using a copperplate originally produced by Jansson for his atlas of the British Isles.

The map stretches from Sedbergh in the far northwest down to Sheffield in the southeast and also encompasses the city of York, although much of the map is taken up by the rural and picturesque Yorkshire Dales. The map names some of the most impressive hills in the region, including Ingleborough, Cam, and Penygent.

The map includes a number of decorative elements, including the coats of arms of important people in the region, the royal coat of arms, and two decorative cartouches.
