Description

A fine early hand-colored engraved map of the Friesland, which appeared in Petrus Kaerius's (Peter Van der Keere) Germaniae Inferior id est, XVII Provinciarum ejus novae et exactae Tabulae Geographicae, first published in Amsterdam in 1617.

Part of Westphalia is shown to the southeast, Drenthe and Salland to the south, the Zuider Zee to the west, and part of the North Sea to the north. The coats of arms of the States of Friesland on the left and of the noble family Cirkensa of East Frisia on the right are pictured. 

Van der Keere's atlas was the first separately published atlas of the Low Countries.
