Description

Rare government-issued map of Singapore, showing the city while it was still a part of the Malayan Federation. Dating to circa 1950, this map shows the city as it then extended, roughly between Chinatown and Boon Keng.

The coastal outline of the city is barely recognizable given that the map predates many of the later land reclamation projects. To the north of the city is a "Tidal Swamp," and a road leads off the map to the airport.

The map is evidently designed for tourists, with a number of sites labeled including the Raffles Museum, various amusement parks, St. Andrew's Cathedral, and the Oriental Theater. A vignette shows a view of Singapore harbor.
